Stay in the know
If you don't do anything, your money will be invested by our independent and experienced trustees who have a duty to act in your best interests.
We believe in investing for a future worth saving for. So, our investments work hard to securing your future, greening our society and positively impacting the future of our planet.
We know not everyone is the same, so if you want to choose where your money is invested, we have a range of self-select funds for you to choose from in the Cushon app.
Case study: your pension = low carbon veg

The average pension pot of an employee in the UK is responsible for 13 tonnes of CO2 per year [¹]. But your Cushon pension[²] is designed to be more environmentally friendly.
We've cut investment emissions by 78%[³] through investing in projects such as a low carbon pepper farm in Suffolk.
Get your 1:1 session
For you to make the most of your pension with ease, you get a free private online guidance session with one of our experts. They can explain your pension and the app, help you set things up, and answer any questions on saving for the future.
You can ask anything you like about your pension. There are no silly questions.
Very. You can easily check your Cushon pension pot balance in the Cushon app. Open the Cushon app to view the latest value of your pension pot on your dashboard.
The Cushon app lets you check your future pension value with simple tools:
• Set your target retirement age and see Cushon pension forecasts for when you want to retire.
• Change your pension contributions to see how saving more or less could affect your Cushon pension pot over time.
• View your estimated Cushon pension pot value, based on your age, your payments, and expected growth. See the total pot, inflation-adjusted figures, and possible monthly income at retirement.
These figures are estimates but can help you plan your pension savings for retirement.
You can also combine other pension pots with your Cushon pension in the app to see all your retirement savings in one place.
You can transfer your other pensions into Cushon.
To transfer an old pension to Cushon:
• Log into your Cushon app
• Select 'Transfers'
• Select 'Pensions' from the toggle
• Tap 'Start a transfer'
In the "Start a new transfer' screen choose your option and then follow the simple steps
Note: If you have more than one pension pot, add each one separately by completing the details for every transfer.
You can usually pay up to 100% of your earnings into your pension each year, or £60,000, whichever is higher.
The £60,000 limit is called the pension annual allowance. This is the most you can pay into your pension each tax year and still get pension tax benefits.
If you have not used up your full annual allowance in the past three tax years, you can carry forward any unused pension allowance.
If you earn more than £260,000 a year, your annual allowance may be lower due to the tapered annual allowance. If your income is over this amount, the total you can pay in with pension tax relief goes down as your income goes up.
Salary sacrifice means your salary is reduced by the value of your pension contributions. Instead of you paying directly, your employer pays this amount into your workplace pension for you. This can save you money, as you and your employer pay less National Insurance contributions.
Your payslip may show a lower salary, but your take-home pay can be higher because you keep more due to lower National Insurance. Your pension contributions stay the same or may be higher, as your employer pays the full amount for you.
Before enrolling in salary exchange, consider these points:
•If your employer gives life cover, it is often based on your salary. Salary sacrifice could lower your life cover because it is based on the reduced salary amount.
•A lower salary may affect how much you can borrow for a mortgage.
•Some state benefits, like Statutory Maternity Pay, may be affected if your recorded salary is lower.
Weigh the pros and cons before you decide. If you are unsure, speak to a financial adviser for help with salary sacrifice and your pension.
Capital at risk. The value of investments can fall as well as rise, and you may get less than the full amount you invest.

[²] The Cushon Sustainable Investment Strategy is our primary default investment strategy. This is where your savings are automatically invested if you do not make your own investment decisions. This is the case for most of our members. We do offer a secondary default investment strategy, Cushon Core and the option to self-select funds. You can find out if your workplace pension is using the Cushon Sustainable Investment Strategy in your account.
